Huskies Down Kutztown

KUTZTOWN-- The Bloomsburg University lacrosse team broke a 6-6 tie by outscoring Kutztown 16-2 over the final 42 minutes of the game to post a 22-8 win over the Golden Bears on Thursday.
With the score deadlocked at 6-6 with 12 minutes to play in the first half, the Huskies scored five straight goals, including two by Kylie Matthews (Gilbertsville/Boyertown) to grab an 11-7 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Huskies Sam Alexander (Willow Grove/Upper Moreland) scored just 1:11 into the second half on assist by Lindsay Kupferschmidt (Royersford/Spring-Ford) and Bloomsburg was off and running. The Huskies scored three more goals over the next eight minutes Allie Kakareka (Royersford/Spring-Ford), Tia Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown), and Samantha King (Elkton, MD/Northeast) to go in front 15-7. After a Kutztown goal, its first in over 20 minutes of play, the Huskies scored the final seven goals of the game to win 22-8. Overall, in the second half of lay Bloomsburg outshot the Golden Bears, 25-7.
Matthews, Mazzie and King each scored four times to lead the Huskies, now 10-4, 7-2 in the PSAC East. Kutztown, 1-13, 0-9 PSAC East, got three goals from Rachel Mehaffey.
Bloomsburg will host Regis University and Rollins University on Saturday and Sunday at Sports Stadium.
